call of cthulu- collaboration with Helen Reed

On August 8, 2008 a group of Torontonian transcendental travelers
answered the Call of Cthulu. Brette Gabel, Helen Reed, and
Maiko Tanaka were transported by Game Master Leigh Beadon to
Providence, Rhode Island, as envisioned by one of the cities most
notable residents; HP Lovecraft. Through invocation of Lovecraft's
characters, we were able to explore the spirit-filled Providence of
1921.

its very hard for people to get this.

there's not much to get about it.

one a day

During Open Engagement: Art After Aesthetic Distance a conference/ art project held in Regina Sk. by Jennifer Delos Reyes I organised a project about making permanent connections with strangers. The conference was attended by around one hundred people. I requested that each participant of the conference submit to me an idea for a tattoo. On the final day a local tattoo artist, Nathan Donahoe, gave me the tattoo. Prior to that moment I had not seen any of the submissions and i had to choose the tattoo on the spot. Thankfully a lovely woman named Rachel Ellison submitted the above drawing, and a beautiful reason for getting the tattoo. 'One a Day' is about taking time every day to enjoy something you love.

heart feelings

this project was not my idea, and is incomplete but it's on me for life so i guess i own some rights to it. it is a part of a project by Jennifer Delos Reyes. you can see that part of the project on her website:
http://www.jendelosreyes.com/Jen_Delos_Reyes/Projects.html
i was recently told she was not planning on getting the other half. that makes me very sad. but now i am both the owner of a lonely heart and a permanently unfinished art project.

Mothers and Daughters:

In 2007 I curated a show about the art made by the women in my family. These are images from the show. Works by Mildred Johnson, Patricia Gabel, Laine Gabel and myself. The photos of the basement are in my Grandmothers old house, which were displayed on the slide projector in the gallery.
